Our mind can play crazy tricks on us. Would you rather have $2,000,000.00 or $2mm? Although they are the same if you are honest with yourself 2 million written out is much better. Would you rather make 10% or 20%? If your first thought is 20%, you may or may not be right.
Percentage is a way to look at a data set in relative terms. But if the denominator is different it losses its relativity. If someone asks you if you would like 10% or 20% make sure to ask them of what. I would rather have 10% of a million than 20% of any number less than 100k.
News about the radioactivity of the water surrounding Japan’s nuclear reactor has increased by, I believe, at one point by 10,000%, there was a mistake in reporting so I can’t find an article about the exact percentage. But even if 10,000% was true, is that a lot? Is 1% a lot? I do not know, you would think that those reporting would let us know. But I guess the denominator is not important when you all you want is eyeballs.
