Is Harvard the new University of Phoenix?

On May 30th, 2007  Apple launched iTunes U, there weren’t many schools participating but I was surprised that the prestigious schools were.  I wonder how much of that was testing for their extension universities.  I can’t imagine the decision was easy as it is the final nail in the coffin on commoditizing education. It also takes away from what I believe is the most important aspect of college, the social aspect.

As I got on the train today I was surprised to see the advertisement below.  Not surprising that they are doing online education but that they were spending money to promote it or have to promote it.

So is Harvard trying to be the new University of Phoenix?

  • I love this! Online learning is nothing to downplay. I tried a regular university and I ended up learning more when I switched to an online university.
