When 99% is more than 100%.

If you have ever played a sport no doubt someone has told you to give 110%.  Well first that is impossible and I really think that thought process is destructive.  The easiest way to get better is to surround yourself with people who are better than you.  You can observe the little things that make them better.  You can see their habits and find which fits you.  The first week of college football I improved more than the previous 8 years of football combined.  Few things are as motivating for an 18 year old than the thought of getting your ass kicked in front of your new friends and coaches.

Not ever person has access to people that are better than them.  If you do not have access you should focus on giving 99%.  As a trader there is always a way to improve, there is always more to learn.  Trading is the relentless pursuit of becoming better.  Each day presents a different challenge in a different context.  After enough time, amount of time is different for each person, you have the tools to overcome those challenges.  Like golf, a market cannot be beat it can only be traded.

I am always in pursuit of that 1% more, but I will never get there.  That pursuit forces me to put in the work and execute that work.  Yes there have been perfect days but those days should a be a lesson removed from emotions just like any other day.

The only guarantee is, getting to 100% in your mind will prevent you from staying there. 99% is the more than 100%.

That is a fantastic post, Eli.  So true.  And when you think you’ve reached 100%, it’s a clear indicator that you haven’t.
    Well done.
